Some thoughts about taxes
If you are running for President, and your ideas about taxes are similar to mine,
just let me know. I'll be happy to vote for you- doesn't matter if you are Democratic
or Republican.
As everyone who has ever filled out a tax form knows, our tax system is convoluted
and irrational. And it is packed with scams and rip-offs.
First of all, maybe someone could explain why corporations typically pay about 0%
tax, while persons (such as myself, who happens to be a person), end up paying about
30%? I really don't understand that. Money is money, right? Why should a corporation
be taxed at a different rate than me?
Next, I'd like to mention the irrationality of tax brackets. Again, a dollar is a dollar.
I guess it's a liberal idea, to think that a person making less money should pay
less taxes. And then it's a conservative idea, to think that really rich people
shouldn't pay taxes. But the most logical idea, brought up by Republican candidate
Forbes, is that there should be a flat tax. Every dollar that you make carries
a taxation of 20%. Doesn't matter how rich or poor you are. Some people might say
that this is a regressive system. But the fact is that this system would be absolutely
fair. There would not be cheating, because it would be such a simple system.
And if we want poor people to have more money, let's set up special programs for them.
Simplicity is the key word, I think. The complexity in our tax code has breaks
for certain corporations, and tax shelters, and all sorts of bizarre things. Let's
get rid of all of it. Jut tax poor people, rich people, corporations equally.
And one last point. I think the tax break on religious organizations should be abolished.
Yes, religious organizations should pay taxes just like everyone else. After all,
why should the government subsidize religions? You know, religions do some good things,
some bad things. For example, the Catholic Church has spent millions of dollars in
tax settlements to abused children. This money is tax-free. So, all of the U.S. citizens
are effectively contributing to these settlements. I think that churches will be able
to afford taxes, just like everyone else!
So tear up all those complex books, throw away all the reams of tax documents,
and get rid of all of the corruption in tax laws. Everyone will pay the same
amount- which will probably end up being a lower amount than you pay now. And
our taxation system will be fair.
