How to view images at the U.S. Patent Office
The U.S. Patent Office is located at http://www.uspto.gov.
It's a very useful site, but I find it difficult to view the images of patents. Somehow
my software doesn't work with it.
Actually, it will work if you install the viewer to your browser, and I've verified this.
But what if you are unable to install the viewer?
The U.S. Patent Office recommends that you install
a viewer. But actually I was able to see the images without using a viewer installed in my browser.
In this case, I downloaded the image to my computer, and then looked at it.
They are using a system that is designed to protect them against robots, but
it makes the site inconvenient.
Personally I think
their site has a flaw, and they should fix it.
Unfortunately, the solution that I suggest will be tricky for people who are not familiar with
computers.
Here's how.
First try to view the images using the "image" button on the patent office webpage.
If your computer is set like mine, when you try to see the images, you will see a blank screen.
That's the problem we are trying to solve.
In the URL, you will see a lot of numbers. Copy the value for the DOCID and for the IDKEY.
Then, enter the link below into your address bar.
But you will have to modify it slightly. In the link below, see the values for the DOCID and the IDKEY? Instead of using
the values that I have below, replace them with the values that you just copied down.
Then go to this address.
Then when the software asks you if you want to "view or save" the image, choose "save".
Then open the file after it is saved on your disk.
Here's the link:

Hope that helps!
