Travel Guide
Just for the hell of it, I am writing little reviews of places that I have lived.
Maybe someone will find them interesting or useful! If you would like to write a little
review, send it to me, and I will add it! Remember, only 1 paragraph!
I am adding the dates where I lived there, too.
- Princeton, NJ (1992-1999).. Princeton is
a small town, about 50,000 people, located in central NJ.
It's well located between Philadelphia and New York, and the train system is
quite good. The town itself is quite pretty, and of course Princeton University is
historic and attractive. If you like hiking, try a walk along the Tow Path. The down
side is that it's a pretty quiet town, and the people can be somewhat snooty.
Most of my friends who left Princeton were pretty happy to leave, actually.
- Urbana-Champaign, IL. (1999-2000). The Urbana-Champaign towns
have about 100,000 people and are a cultural and educational center of central Illinois.
It takes about 4 hours to get from Chicago to Urbana, which means that it's kind of in
the middle of nowhere. And besides the University, there is not too much going on.
Pretty quiet town. On the other hand, the people are intriguingly diverse, and quite
nice. The University (UIUC) is world-renowned. So I'm not sure if it is a tourist
hot spot, but it certainly has many excellent points to it!
- Beaverton, OR. (2001). Well, no one would actually want
to live in Beaverton- it's a congested suburb of Portland. But Portland is very cool.
Some people say it's a very European city. Public transportation is excellent, and
I found it pretty safe to walk around. If you like nature, there are plenty of parks
and wilderness areas. The people are very eclectic- there is a real Northwest
spirit which you have to visit to appreciate.
Not too many Jews, though. Overall, I would rate Portland a great
place to visit!
- Lexington, MA (1970-1983).. Lexington is a great place
to visit and to live. It has beautiful trees and paths to walk on. Of course, it
is a historic town- it's where the Revolutionary War started! Nearby, you will
find MIT and Harvard, not to mention the many activities in Boston. People in
Massachussetts are very friendly, in their own way!
- Santa Monica, CA (2001-2003).. Ah, if you are lucky enough
to live in Santa Monica. It's a small city, about 60,000. I would say it's one of
the top tourist destinations in the world! You've got the beach, the fresh air, the
shopping. Also, it's a very liberal culture, with many different people doing their
own thing.
- Durham, NC(2003)..
Durham is a university town, dominated by Duke University. You will also find
many other universities in the area, as well as Research Triangle Park.
It's a very woodsy area, with plenty of hiking and recreation. Also a lot of smart,
liberal people live there. Not a bad place to visit!
