Scene 3: At the Retirement Home
February 2, 2001.
Pacific Villa retirement home.
Chuck strode into the Pacific Villa retirement home. "Hi, I'm
looking for Bobby," he said.
Bobby came out from behind the desk. "You must be Chuck,"
he said. "Bobby Reginald, nice to meet you. Let me show
you what we have planned. Over here is our main lounge area.
Most of our residents are in their 70's and 80's. They come
down to the lounge to talk with each other. They live in small
apartments on the upper floors."
Chuck smiled at the residents. "Hi," he introduced himself
to one gray old man. "Chuck Walters. Nice to meet you."
The old man nodded and smiled.
"They love getting guests," said Bobby. "Just be sure to speak
loudly and slowly, ok? Anyway, we have this small microphone and
speaker, and a piano, too. Nothing like what you're used to,
but I think it will be fine."
"Looks great," said Chuck. "Misty can't wait to do this event.
She's very interested in getting involved with senior citizens
groups."
"That's wonderful to hear," said Bobby. "You know, she's not that
much younger than me, I imagine. Personally, I never expected
to be involved with senior citizens. But I can't tell you how rewarding
it's been."
"Yes," nodded Chuck. "I can imagine." He turned. "And who is this
young man?"
Steve came walking up, in his awkward, stumbling way. "Steve," he
slurred, with an enthusiastic grin.
"My younger brother," Bobby explained. "He was very excited
that Misty was coming, so I told him he could tag along, as long
as he doesn't make too much trouble."
"Sure," said Chuck. "Misty will be happy to meet him." His cell phone
rang. "If you will excuse me," said Chuck, walking off into a corner
of the building.
"Seems nice," said Bobby to Steve. "Maybe a little too smooth, though.
But I guess that's the way these Hollywood types are."
