Summary
In Southern California, there is only one sport, and that's college football. Sure, everyone loves the Lakers, some people like the Dodgers, and there are those unusual people who even know that LA has a hockey team. But the only sport of any real importance is college football- specifically, the UCLA-USC game.
This year, UCLA is fortunate enough to have quarterback Dave Forts, the best QB in the nation. If Dave Forts plays in the USC-UCLA game, certainly UCLA will win. Everyone is following Dave's every move- including the Governor, the coach, the NCAA officials, the alumni, and Dave's girlfriend. Dave is the focus of attention. And he doesn't have a car.

Chapter 1. Injury on the field. This is the beginning of the story, where the star quarterback is injured.
Chapter 2. In this chapter, Dave meets Stacy. He is playing a game at Long Beach, and she is a reporter for the USC student paper. They go out for pizza. She drives. Dave charms her with a song on his guitar about how he has no car. Meanwhile, Mr. Hales, the NCAA investigator is tailing them.
