Introduction

This chapter will discuss the nutria at work. Even nutria have to make money. Although nutria enjoy paddling around and taking little naps, they can't do this without cash flow. And, generating cash flow often requires behavior that is exactly opposite to the desired nutria lifestyle. We have to get up early, work hard, and engage in power struggles.
So how can we resolve the paradox: that to achieve our desired lifestyle, we must act in a non-nutria fashion? Well, some people say that they will work very hard for a few years, and then accumulate enough money so that they can retire. Such a strategy is not recommended. The problem is that you will be unhappy while working. And what if you do not achieve the desired financial return? Then what? Worse yet, what if you abandon your inner nutria?
In my opinion, the best option is to plot a path that will give you good cash flow, satisfy your employer, but still maintain a good nutria outlook as much as possible.

Making the right career choice

Some nutria pick the wrong career paths. They find themselves stressed out and miserable. Here are career choices that are obviously wrong for nutria:

Lawyers. It's a stressful business. A lawyer must be aggressive, very outgoing. Long hours. A lot of interaction with possibly hostile people.
Policemen, firemen. Again, these are high-stress jobs. And they don't allow time for napping. You can get in big trouble if you take a nap while you are inside a burning building!
Other jobs that entail life-threatening situations. Doctor, air traffic control. These can be stressful jobs.
Retail sales. Too much work. Can't sit down on the job.

So we can see that high-stress jobs are not appropriate for nutria. Also, jobs that involve a lot of standing up aren't that good either. Now let's look at the list of nutria-friendly jobs:

Scientist or engineer. Great job for a nutria. Can involve a lot of napping.
Civil service job. Most government jobs end up being naturally nutria-friendly.
Librarian. Great job for a nutria! Nutria love to help people! The librarian job typically has good hours and quite a bit of sitting down.
