This is a quirkly little movie that you will only find on HBO. But actually it is better than a lot
of movies you will see in theaters! It really shows how HBO is becoming a force.
It's about a black man, Vivian(Mos Def) working at John Hopkins with a white heart surgeon (Alan Rickman).
Mos Def does a really nice job playing the complex character.
In the movie, Vivian works alongside with the heart surgeon to develop a procedure for operating on
the hearts of young babies. One thing I liked about this movie is that it showed the scientific process.
The surgeons come up with an idea, try it, see what happens, and then try again. The ideas are
explained quite clearly.
Vivian is a talented guy, but he is working in a racist world. He gets low pay, no credit, and has
to watch as the white surgeon receives the glory.
It's a sad situation. But kind of inspirational, as Vivian still works hard and plays an important role.
Eventually he does get some recognition!
It's definitely worth watching, as all the characters have some real depth.
