Rating: 3 kiddy bears
To enjoy this movie, you really have to have a juvenile
sense of humor.
For example, my girlfriend, Val, cannot watch this movie
for more than 1 minute. So, assuming you have this odd
sense of humor, let's continue.
Austin Powers is the James Bond parody. He is a spy who lived
in Britain in the 1960's. He has been frozen, and returned to life
in the 1990's. It is his job to combat Dr. Evil.
There are a lot of funny gags in here. Perhaps my favorite is
when Austin uses a couch to pretend he is going down an elevator,
or a staircase. It's nothing elaborate. It's just a little funny.
Elizabeth Hurley does a really nice job in this movie, as Austin's
love interest. She has difficulty understanding that
Austin just likes to shag women, and she wants a more committed
relationship.
Yes, I will concede that this is not Shakespeare. But it is light,
funny, and warm-hearted. And it is about relationships, which is
something that all good movies are about.
